Verdens beste cake

The history of Verdens Beste cake

Mellow combination of sponge cake and toasted meringue with almonds combined with an irresistible vanilla diplomat cream and fresh berries.

“Verdens Beste” cake originates from Norway and its name translates as “The Best in the World”. This delicious creation is considered a classic Norwegian pastry and has earned its reputation for its exquisite taste and soft, fluffy texture.

The original recipe for “Verdens Beste” cake was created by a Norwegian housewife in the 1970s. Although there is no clear consensus on the exact inventor, what is known is that the recipe quickly became popular in Norway and was voted the national cake in 2002 on the TV programme “Nitimen”.

The base of the “Verdens Beste” cake is a light and fluffy sponge cake, topped with meringue for an airy texture. The characteristic filling is usually a mixture of whipped cream and vanilla cream, which gives it an irresistible creaminess. It is also usually topped with toasted almonds and fresh berries.

This Norwegian delicacy has become so popular that it can be found in many bakeries and pastry shops in Norway, and its fame has spread beyond the country's borders. In fact, the cake is known as “Brita cake” in neighbouring Finland and Sweden. “Verdens Beste” is a true example of excellence in Norwegian baking and continues to be a culinary delight for those lucky enough to try it.
